About this site headcurrane.netlogo

Are we making money from Currane.net, what are our intentions?

The Currane Community Web Site was conceived as a way of doing something for the community. We are not good bakers or builders, but we can make web sites so it seemed natural for us to use our talents to (hopefully) provide something useful. It may be that the site proves to be nothing more than a nice way for people who have moved away to keep in touch with the area, but on the other hand it could be used as a vehicle to promote the region and it's businesses. This is for the community to decide.

We have no desire to profit personally from the site, but we would like the site to be profitable. Any profits that can be made will be ploughed into community projects.

So how can the site make money? No revenue is generated from hits on the site or from people adopting "@currane.net" email addresses, or any of the other services provided by the site. The simple answer to the question is: advertising. Of course advertising comes in many forms, the most common form on web sites being banners. These usually consists of graphics at the top of each page and if people click on these banner ads, a few pennies are earned for the site. Unfortunately these ads are often ugly, can slow down the pages considerably and are only going to make significant amounts of money for very busy sites.

We prefer sponsorship *[see note]. For a site like Currane.net this will be much more effective for the sponsor and for the community. The idea is that businesses will pay a small amount of money to have their logo displayed at the top of one or more pages, and this can include a link to the company's website. Hopefully enough businesses will be interested in participating to make a profit for the community.

If you would like to sponsor a page, or know anyone who you think might like to sponsor a page, please email sponsorship@currane.net or contact Al or Jane directly.

*Due to a temporary limitation at our ISP, the currane.net messageboard is provided, free of charge, by a third party. This means we have little control over the style of the messageboard, and the third party adds banner advertising to it. While this is not desirable, it is better to have a message board with banners than not to have a message board!
